Ayiesha Woods Gears Up for Exciting 2007 with Dove Award Nomination
The spotlight continues to shine brightly on singer-songwriter Ayiesha Woods with her most recent recognition coming in the form of a Dove Award nomination for “New Artist of the Year” for the upcoming 38th annual GMA Dove Awards.
Since unveiling her debut album last June 6th, Woods has seen popular and critical acclaim for her Gotee debut Introducing Ayiesha Woods. Charisma Magazine hailed Woods’ musical offering as one with “rich vocals and thought-provoking lyrics.” CCM Magazine followed her career as one of three emerging musical talents for 2006 in their “Band Wagon” column, and MTU.com’s URGE service (www.urge.com) picked Introducing Ayiesha Woods in their 2006 TOP 10 year-end list for Inspirational music. The album also garnered Woods a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album” this year alongside of acts including Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, Leeland, and category winner Third Day.
On the Christian radio front, Woods’ single “Big Enough” is making a steady climb, and is currently eyeing the #6 position at the AC format. Her song “Happy” merited a Top 5 slot on the CHR charts, as well as a Top 10 title at the AC charts. “Happy” is currently being heard in an ad campaign for the DVD release of the Russell Crowe film, A Good Year.
Woods has also been busy touring the country, and is just off the Winter Wonder-slam Christmas tour with tobyMac, Family Force 5, Hawk Nelson, and The Afters. The upcoming 2007 Revolve Tour, presented by Women of Faith, has enlisted Woods for 14 event dates.
Musically inclined since childhood, Ayiesha Woods has already seen her share of accolades. In 2004, she became the first female to walk away with the “Producer of the Year” award from the Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards, that same year she also received the Marlin Awards’ “New Artist of the Year” and “Contemporary Vocal Performance of the Year (Female).”
