    Recording

    Hey guys

I've been watching some of the recording videos, looking for general mic'ing ideas.  I have a nice mic but sold an Mbox a few years ago.  I may pick up an inexpensive interface to use with Garageband to record some of the instruments I've made.  I ended the year over-budget (hello?) so I may pick up another line6 echo park as well.  Whenever I saw Charlie in what looked like recording situations in those videos, he just had the line input and no mic.  Is that how acoustics were recorded on the latest album?

    Re: Recording

Nope. Afraid not. The recordings that you saw were just the roughs of the songs to get down a feel/starting place for the drums. We like the energy of recording as a band...everyone playing and feeding off of each other, but when it comes to final tracking, the acoustic guitar and vocals are among the last to actually be done. Sorry to be the bearer of expensive news.

Haha, it's ok. I love the energy you guys have on those recordings btw.  And I made a complete typo.  I'm under-budget.  Over-budget wouldn't make much sense.

Is that also how you guys did One the Road to Beautiful?  That one makes me feel like I'm there.  It's incredible.

Not sure what happened...it left my last post blank. What I meant to say was "Yep, that's how we did that recording, too"

    Re: Recording

Well, I picked up a recording interface and a new echo park.  I plan to use the interface with garage band.  I'm not sure how I plan to use the delay, but I'll be sure to keep my progress up here.

Right now my electric setup looks like my telecaster into a barber tone press (compressor), echo park (delay), my matchless lightning clone (amp).  Keeping it simple.

I know I'm a little over a year late, but I'm up late and bored.

As far as Garageband goes, I highly suggest the Line 6 Gearbox. Its $70 and has a ton of great amp sounds and effects. I'm sure you've already got a set up, since I'm a year late, but whatev. haha. Its good stuff. Its basically a POD, but software based. you just plug your guitar into the thing, and pick it as your input in garageband. boom.
